Kimberly Webber’s work is a balance of Eastern and Western techniques, philosophy and spirituality. Webber’s studies include Nihonga style painting which migrated from China to Japan in the 7th century AD along with Buddhism. Webber also learned traditional Chinese techniques of the Hunan School. She was taught classic Chinese painting from a lineage of the Taoist monk and calligraphic master painter named Lin Chein Shih of the Hunan School of China. Since then Webber has been combining the Asian techniques with her classical oil painting training which included studies in Florence, Italy, New York City and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Her multi-dimensional paintings are created from traditional media including vine charcoal, pure powdered mineral pigments, Asian calligraphy ink, hide glue and rice paper. She has been painting since early childhood and throughout her life. Webber’s work has shown in solo exhibitions in New York City’s Soho district, and is currently on display in Coral Gables/Miami, Florida and Taos, New Mexico. On the west coast the work is exhibited in Carmel, Californiasouth of San Francisco. Internationally, the paintings are exhibited in Marbella, Spain. In May, 2006 a one-woman show titled “Heart of Earth” opens in the Middle East at a woman owned and operated gallery in Amman, Jordan. The proceeds from the painting sales of “Heart of Earth” will benefit the children affected by the ravages of war.

The quality of light and the open sky in New Mexico are a major source of inspiration for Webber’s work as is the sacred land. The work revolves around the ethereal space of dreams, deep memory and the archetypes.

Each painting begins as a classical charcoal drawing with soft gradations of chiaroscuro (light and dark) across the paper. From the drawing, the composition is built upon with many sheer layers of pure pigment and subtle color washes. Each piece is taken deep into the oil realms to produce paintings that are translucent and light interactive. The finished oil painting is usually 50-90+ layers of sheer color and delicate glazes. Very traditional media are used; vine charcoal, powdered earth pigments, calligraphy ink, handmade oil formulas. Natural elements are preferred for their superior practical applications as well as for their metaphysical properties. The process is an alchemical blending of materials, light and intent. The technique is a fusion of traditional Asian and European schools of painting. Each piece is a healing meditation, a living portal that incorporates the language of the archetypes. Enjoy!

Heart of Earth Project

“Heart of Earth” is a new series of paintings by Kimberly Webber. The exhibition opens May 10, 2006 at Orfali Gallery in the capital city of Amman, Jordan and will be on display until May 24, 2006. The paintings within the “Heart of Earth” exhibition honor the feminine energy of the universe, making the connection between the healing of the Earth and the healing of humanity; our children, families, communities and nations. Dreaming a world into reality where war is obsolete, where masculine and feminine aspects are in balance, each honored for it’s own unique strengths and gifts. Each person’s heart connects with the heart of Earth; the heart becoming the portal to our planetary evolution.”
